It's all about ownership, and the way credit unions compensate their owners. Think about it! If you own stock in a company, including commercial banks, you want them to maximize their profitability so that they can pay as high a dividend to the stockholders as possible, right? Credit unions are not structured like that! Credit unions are cooperatives, and thus we are owned equally by each and every one of our members. Commercial banks maximize their profitability in an effort to cut bigger dividend checks to their stockholders. Credit unions, on the other hand, compensate their owners by reducing the fees and interest that we charge, and increase the interest we pay our members for their deposit accounts, and simply pass that along to each owner based on the amount of business they choose to do with us! That's right! You get to choose how much advantage you wish to gain from your credit union membership by utilizing the credit union more and more!

There is another difference too, and you can find it in the board room! Every member has the opportunity to vote for the individuals that direct the operations of the credit union, and in fact, each member is also eligible to seek election to the board of directors. The result is that credit unions are owned and operated by their members, and not just those individuals who own the most shares of stock!

We urge you to take advantage of the benefits that our cooperatively owned financial institution provides!
